Inspiring Stories of Women's Empowerment in India

Indira Gandhi once said that to be liberated, a woman must feel like herself. Not as a rival to a man. But in the context of her own capacity and personality.

Today, we can proudly say that there are many women achievers in India who have achieved this feat of being liberated.

From being a detective to starting their own business, there are many inspirational women stories in India.

Today, we bring 4 such women empowerment stories that show us that the women in India are no longer competing with men but with themselves

1.     Manya Singh

A daughter of an auto driver, Manya had always dreamed big. This dream turned into a reality when Manya was declared as Femina Miss India Runner Up for the year 2020.

It was not easy for Manya. Not being fluent in English to give the beauty pageant interviews, financial troubles, limited access to grooming ideas…the challenges were many.

Manya however, did not give up and focused on winning instead. Manya's win is a truly inspirational story for women.

2.     Shila Dare

As the first female auto driver in India, Shila's feat has been recorded in the Limca Book of Records. The journey, however, was not easy.  Shila had to face opposition from many sides – the society, her family and even other male auto drivers. Shila, however, did not give up. She not only drove an auto but also got married to a fellow auto driver and soon started her own transport business.

Shila is truly an inspiration to girls today.

3.     Nirmala Sitharaman

As the first Finance Minister of India, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman's story makes it to the top of inspirational women stories. She also served as the Defense Minister of India.

4.     Mridula Jain

What makes Mridula Jain's story truly inspiring is that she never set out to be a business person. While she wanted to continue her studies, Mrs Jain gave in to her family's demands and got married instead.

She, however, found her true support in her husband. He supported her decision to study further after marriage. With two kids in tow, when Mridula decided to establish her own business of selling shawls, he was again by her side. With his encouragement, she set up Shingora Textile. Today, she is the proud MD of Shingora Textiles, which is known for its designer shawls.
